It’s Money Monday. Today we’re discussing the best, smartest, fastest, most profitable way to enter the Belle Eagle Green Space. WardAV asks, “As someone completely new to the industry but very enthusiastic, what steps can you recommend I take to get going?” Now, this is one of the most common questions I receive, so let’s go ahead and get to the money. But first, I’m Charlo Greene, creator of the cannabisbusinessmasterclass.com.

So you want to know the absolute best way to get into the cannabis industry. First and foremost, what you need to understand is regardless of whether you are in the green space or the beauty space or marketing, regardless of where you’re at, you will only be compensated for the value you are bringing to the market, not off how excited you are about the green rush or how many certificates you’ve gotten from college or Oaksterdam, but actual value that you not can, but are delivering.

I say that to say when you’re thinking about the best way to enter this space, ask not what cannabis can do for you, but what you can do for cannabis. What you can do for this industry, this community, what value can you add to the marketplace? Because the more value you add, the more you will be compensated. So say, you’ve been doing accounting for the last 15 years, but you’ve always had the dream of starting your own cannabis cookie company. If you haven’t actually been building your cookies skills while you’ve been doing the accounting for the last 15 years, I’m willing to bet … The dollars do go fast.

I’m willing to bet my money god, that people, the market is going to pay you a lot more for your 15 years of accounting experience over your struggle cookies. And we cover this a lot during the first couple of weeks of the Cannabis Business Masterclass in the finding your niche section.

But that’s a couple of weeks of work I’m trying to squeeze into five minutes. So consider this a little taste. So how do you find that skill you already have that you can bring into the brain space. ‘Cause this is the fastest. Bringing something you already have as opposed to trying to develop something to compete with people that have been doing and mastering their crafts for years in this space.

So start with where you’re at and ask yourself these four questions. Number one, based on the 10,000 hour rule, the one popularized by mastery author Malcolm Gladwell that basically says it takes 10,000 hours of focused energy, 10,000 focused hours to attain a level of mastery at any given task or job or role. So based on the 10,000 hour rule, what tasks or job or role have you amassed the most hours mastering? For me, I have clocked in well over 10,000 hours producing informational videos, so I parleyed that experience I had as a TV news journalist into weed and out of everything I’ve done in the green space. It’s my experience with video and marketing that has been paying off time and time again.

In fact in a month, I’m launching a marketing company that specializes in video promos and Facebook ads for green businesses all based off of that prior experience. So same goes for you. Yes, it might be great to start that struggle cookie company and and try and make ends meet with all of these people that are buying as you build up the value or you could take something that you already know you’ve mastered and apply to the green space. And they range from everything from Instagram thought to cannabis doctor to cannabis marketer to event … A whole, it’s a really lot, a 101 jobs so find what it is that you’re doing and trust.

If someone has been paying you outside of the green industry to do this job, there is a need and you can and will be compensated for that in the cannabis space. So what have you spent the most time mastering? That’s number one.

Number two, what are your greatest business strengths? And you have to be brutally honest with yourself about this one or else you’re playing yourself and setting yourself up for failure. I suck at numbers. I am a bit dyslexic and that’s okay because I know that I’m a really strong marketer. Now because I keep it real with myself, I find and create opportunities that compliment my existing skills. So keep it real with yourself and ask, analyze what are your greatest business strengths? That’s number two.

Number three, do you have any special degrees or certificates? Yes it’s 2018 and we are talking weed here. So no, degrees in the traditional sense, they don’t really matter. But if you’ve received an acknowledgement for exemplary skills, that’s money. The green industry is so nascent. If you have anything special to bring to the table that provides real value, you have a huge opportunity to capitalize off of it. So look at your special degrees and certifications and see which of those you can apply to this space, which skills that have been acknowledged by your peers outside of this space and in that other industry, what are you doing so spectacularly that people have decided to award you a certificate or plaque or paper?

And then finally four. What do you love doing for fun that creates something of value for others? The latter part, if we’re talking from a business perspective, matters so much more than the first part. So what do you like doing for fun? That’s the first part. But listen up here, this is the important one, that creates something of value for others. And by of value, I mean something people will pay for.

Those four questions are going to require you to do some thinking, a lot of self analysis and a practical approach to your entry into the green rush. But if you do the work, you’ll have a clear understanding of the absolute best way for you, specifically you, to get into the green space and dominate.
